Scientific Research Teams bring science directly to the chapter level, giving STARFLEET members a way to explore, share, and participate in science together.
Science at the Chapter Level
Inform & Educate
The Scientific Research Team (SRT) is the smallest unit within the STARFLEET Sciences Auxiliary. Each team serves as an informational and communications resource for its chapter in all things science, enhancing interest and promoting science education wherever possible.
Share & Connect
SRTs share information and communicate with other like-minded members throughout the STARFLEET Sciences Auxiliary via the Region Science Liaisons. The Science Liaison network provides a way to share scientific interests across the organization.
Explore & Participate
SRTs foster participation in science-related activities, from local chapter projects to away missions at museums, observatories, science centers, space facilities, planetariums, and other destinations of scientific interest.
How Do I Participate?
Establishing a Scientific Research Team requires four things.
STARFLEET Membership
Team members must be members of STARFLEET International.
Sciences Membership
Participants must also be members of STARFLEET Sciences.
SRT Application
Complete the Scientific Research Team application form to establish your team.
Command Approval
Your chapter Commanding Officer must give permission for the SRT to be established.
Team Structure
SRTs are chapter-based and may consist of a single member or dozens. The member overseeing the team is the Lead Researcher (LR), while the second in command is the Lead Research Assistant (LRA).
Team Designation
Each SRT receives a unique designation based on its vessel’s NCC number. For example, the SRT aboard the ISS Olympus is designated SRT-36010. Teams are encouraged to create their own nicknames, mottos, and logos.
Quarterly Reporting
SRT reporting is completed quarterly, one month before publication of Event Horizon. Reports should include the current team roster, projects and activities, award recipients, and any assistance or resources needed.
What Can an SRT Do?
Activities can include chapter projects and programs, science-related away missions, recycling and conservation efforts, highway clean-ups, school science projects, or larger chapter initiatives. Projects can be as simple or as ambitious as the interests of the team.
